For the 4th time, I was honored to be invited back to the annual Photosynthesis festival held on the northwest tip of the Olympic Penninsula on the epicly beautiful Makah tribe land. This is the downtempo set I did in the H’art center on sunday night. I used this as a chance to play some of the weirder eclectic sound-scape / sound-design glitchy IDM tunes that have been collecting dust in my folders.

I was honored to be invited back to the 5th annual Photosynthesis festival held on the northwest tip of the Olympic Penninsula on the epicly beautiful Makah tribe land on Neah Bay.This event is special for many reasons but I think what does it the most for me is the cultural cross pollination with the Native Makah tribe who have lived and fished on the land for many thousands of years. The tidal flats north of Neah Bay lend their own form of magic to the timeless feeling I experience when visiting.
This year I was asked to do two sets – One upbeat set on the main stage and a downtempo chillout set in the H’art dome. this, of course, is the uptempo set which is comprised mostly of special edits of my favorite songs to squeeze as much goodness as possible into an hour set. The genres go all over the place to the degree that I hesitate to list them in case someone confuses this mix for the confused rambling of a eclectic madman.

This was a special set which was part of a larger special weekend (see the photoblog for photographic evidence). This set occurred between Dj Cam and Tipper on the main stage Saturday night. I spent quite a long time preparing for this set, cutting tons of special edits of songs I like but drag on too long, slicing and dicing bits into songs I like. The recording has a mic which was posted on one of the beams – throughout the recording you’ll hear cheering and crowd noise – mostly in a good way. This is also responsible for a slightly less than pristine audio quality. Oh well cant win em all. =) Rest assured the real audio sounds much crisper and kickass on a soundsystem.
oh… and it starts abruptly and ends abruptly. again… not my department. I would like to thank Mark Hall who I assume handled the recording of the sets and getting them all online. 
Garrett who was running sound, shot some videos during this set so you can peep it. I think the audio is quite loud so you might wanna check your volume first. =)
I was honored to be asked to play shortly after the ball dropped on NYE alongside some of my personal heros and favorite people Random Rab & Phaedroid (Andrew Jones & Phaedra) (p.s. dont forget the Random Rab live recording I have hosted on this site).The set went great – the KV2 was dialed and sounded amazing, the crowd stayed with me till the very end despite the unrelenting progression towards loud twisted facemelting tracks. A number of these tracks are special edits I made.
I held off for a while on posting this mix because I’m a perfectionist about a few things and this mix is less than perfect due to a less than perfect monitoring situation on the stage. The slapback was pretty brutal and I couldn’t hear the nuances of the beat – so with all that in mind you’ll pardon a few hairy mixes right? thanks =) I really can mix my way out of a wet paper bag if I had to.

This mix covers a wide range of off-kilter eclectic mid-tempo tunes with a strong emphasis on the wonky sounds coming from down under. As such it’s probably not for everyone. The mix was originally broadcast on basstream radio on Glitch.fm April 26th, 2011. For the curious… This mix is more or less what I would have played for my Decibel 2010 set if it wasn’t unfortunately cut short due to someone misplacing Beat Antiques drums which pushed everything back hours.

This is a live recording from an outdoor gathering called Prosperity that happens deep in the Washington desert with a close group of my super homies every year. I had brought out my KSP8 effects processor for real time dub effects with some midi-controllers.
The style on this mix is more or less all breaks. enjoy!
Perhaps there were clients to allow use of OSC in Ableton and I hadn’t heard of them. While I have used midi controllers before in processing, nothing beats the ease of use compared to abletons mapping. Say hello to OSCGlue, the newest tool in your kit

Lightning in a bottle, an amazing yearly festival in southern California held a mixtape contest to win a dj slot on the line up – The limitation being that you could only use artists who were booked on the line up – seeing as their curation is impeccable I thought this could be a fun challenge.
It features three distinct sections – each one representing a different style / energy. In order to make many of these songs more dj friendly I made special edits of these songs focusing on the bits I wanted to highlight for this mix. I did the mixing in Ableton Live using several midi controllers to send audio from the computer to an external tempo-synced KSP-8 digital effects processor – you can hear a number of these lush organic dub style delays and reverbs through out the mix.
